Relief: When Letting Go Begins
When does giving up become letting go?
In Relief, a woman kneels in the rain as fire burns behind her. Roses lie in the water. She does not run or try to hold on to them. She turns her face upward and lets the rain fall.
The painting holds a moment that is difficult to name. Has something been lost, or has she finally set down what she could no longer carry? The fire might mark destruction or release. The roses might belong to love, grief, or a farewell.
Artis Berkmanis leaves that story open. What matters is the feeling at its centre: the quiet shift that can happen when resistance ends. From the outside, surrender and freedom can look almost the same.
